Texture

A bit of grit

Any use of texture should feel additive and incorporate a workwear and/or environmental texture to bring to life the visual tone of the brand. Avoid textures that feel too busy, distracting or abstract. Textures work best when they include organic or environmental elements that connect with the real work that real people are doing.

You will want to bring in some texture when working with flat backgrounds and color blocking. A 2% noise with a very subtle texture should bring the hard-working message home.

When doing so, attempt to conceptually tie the texture to the photography (if it’s a construction site, use a cement-like texture, etc.). The texture should remain subtle and never seem overly dirty — try an overlay at 10-20% opacity to start and adjust from there.

Textures like these work very well.
